What is Medicare ?

Medicare is a health insurance program for people 65 and older, those under 65 with certain disabilities, and those of any age with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).

Medicare has four parts: Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage Plans), and Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage).

You can get Parts A & B without having to pay a premium, as long as you or your spouse have worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years.

If you decide you want prescription drug coverage, you must sign up for Part D. You can do this when you first become eligible for Medicare or during the Annual Election Period each year.

There is no monthly premium for Medicare Part A, but beneficiaries are responsible for a deductible and coinsurance.

Part C is also known as Medicare Advantage, and it is a way for people with Medicare to get their benefits through a private health insurance company. Part C plans typically include all of the benefits that are covered under Medicare Part A and Part B, and they may also offer additional benefits, such as prescription drug coverage, vision, and dental coverage.
